EPL Table After Tottenham Beat Chelsea 2-0

According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 24, 2026, Tottenham secured a 2-0 victory over Chelsea in their Premier League clash after a late own goal from goalkeeper Mike Penders and a stunning strike from Mathys Tel decided the contest.

Chelsea struggled to convert their opportunities, while Tottenham capitalised on their chances to claim an important win.

The first half ended goalless despite both teams creating opportunities. Chelsea threatened through Cole Palmer, who tested Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky with a shot from distance in the 14th minute. Kinsky remained alert and comfortably dealt with the effort.

Tottenham gradually grew into the contest and enjoyed more possession. Mohammed Kudus came close to opening the scoring in the 20th minute after receiving a lofted pass, but his close-range attempt narrowly missed the target.

Omar Marmoush also tested Chelsea's defence with a shot from inside the penalty area, although Mike Penders managed to keep the ball out. Chelsea responded through Morgan Rogers, who missed a promising opportunity after taking too long to shoot inside the box.

Pedro Neto came close to breaking the deadlock shortly before halftime. The Chelsea winger collected the ball from a set-piece opportunity and fired towards the bottom corner, but Kinsky produced an important save to preserve Tottenham's clean sheet.

The second half saw Tottenham increase their attacking pressure. James Maddison was forced off through injury in the 51st minute, with Conor Gallagher introduced as his replacement. Chelsea also made changes in an attempt to improve their attacking threat.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 77th minute when Penders inadvertently turned a Tottenham corner into his own net. The unfortunate goalkeeper headed the ball beyond his own reach, handing Tottenham a crucial advantage.

Chelsea's situation worsened when Palmer received a second yellow card in the 80th minute and was sent off. Tottenham took advantage of their numerical superiority, with Tel producing a brilliant individual effort in the 87th minute. The forward skipped past defenders before firing a powerful long-range shot into the bottom-left corner.

Chelsea attempted to respond, but Tottenham maintained their advantage until the final whistle. The visitors secured a deserved 2-0 victory after delivering a more effective performance in the closing stages.
