Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is expected to make one enforced change to his starting line-up for Saturday's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, with goalkeeper Mike Penders set to replace the injured Emiliano Martinez.
According to a report by Football London on Friday 23 October 2026, Chelsea's writers have backed Cole Palmer to retain his place in the starting XI as the Blues prepare to face their London rivals at Stamford Bridge.
Martinez underwent surgery on a fractured jaw after sustaining the injury at the weekend, leaving Penders in line for his first Premier League start under Alonso.
Chelsea head into the encounter following an important 2-0 victory over Everton, which delivered their first Premier League clean sheet in nine months and strengthened their position under the Spanish manager.
The defence is expected to remain largely unchanged, with Josh Acheampong tipped to continue alongside Maxence Lacroix and Levi Colwill in a back three. Acheampong has impressed in recent matches and is increasingly establishing himself in Alonso's plans.
Jordan Henderson and Moises Caicedo are also expected to retain their midfield partnership after their strong performances against Everton. Romeo Lavia could eventually challenge for a starting position, but Henderson's recent form may earn him another opportunity.
Pedro Neto is expected to keep his place following his match-winning contribution against Everton. However, there is disagreement over who should start on the opposite flank, with one prediction favouring Marco Palestra and another backing Jorrel Hato after the Dutch defender impressed last weekend.
Both predicted line-ups feature Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro as Chelsea's attacking trio.
Palmer remains an important part of Alonso's plans, with the England international expected to provide creativity and attacking quality against Tottenham.
The Blues have benefited from additional preparation time this week, having avoided European action, although Tottenham have also had time to prepare after playing Coventry City on Monday.
