According to a report by Manchesterevening News on Friday October 23, 2026, concern among Manchester United supporters arose on Thursday nite after news broke that Andre Onana, a former goalkeeper for the club, narrowly avoided serious injury in a multi-vehicle road accident in Turkey.
The 30-year-old Cameroon international was returning home with his family following Trabzonspor's 2-0 Conference League victory over Hearts when the accident occurred near Trabzon.
Reportedly, Onana was rear-ended by a speeding vehicle on the Yomra road, which subsequently slammed into an oncoming vehicle, as reported by The Sun.
The goalkeeper was transported to the hospital for medical examinations after emergency services responded to the incident. Thankfully, he managed to avoid serious harm and was released soon after.
After that, Onana's condition was reassured by Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan, who told local media, "There are no problems with him," and wished him a quick recovery.
Manchester United fans will remember Onana from his time at Inter Milan, where he joined the club in 2023. The English team won the FA Cup after his 102 appearances, including a game-winning performance against Manchester City at Wembley.
Nonetheless, due to inconsistent play and changes in the club's goalkeeping options, his position at Old Trafford weakened over time.
While Altay Bayindir was preferred in the first Premier League matches, his prospects were further diminished by the arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for around €21 million.
As a result, Onana made just one appearance for Manchester United during that time, and that was in the Carabao Cup, a penalty shootout loss to Grimsby Town.
In September 2025, the goalkeeper went on loan to Trabzonspor. He played in 34 games for them, keeping six clean sheets but letting in 42 goals.
A new season-long loan with the Turkish club until June 2027 was made possible after Manchester United allegedly told his representatives in May that he was not part of Michael Carrick's plans.
Reportedly interested in permanently signing Onana, Trabzonspor are currently in fourth place in the Turkish Super Lig.
The goalie's immediate recovery from the accident takes precedence over any possible transfer, although reports indicate Manchester United could demand around £8.5 million for him.
