According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Saturday October 24, 2026, Andrey Santos has named five Manchester United players he believes can help the club turn around their disappointing start to the season, insisting that unity and hard work will be crucial to improving results.
Manchester United have endured a difficult campaign under Michael Carrick, winning just two of their first 11 matches across all competitions, according to the report. Their struggles worsened on Wednesday night when they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League.
The result has increased the pressure on Carrick, who must find a way to restore confidence and consistency ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
Santos, who joined United in the summer, believes the squad possesses enough quality to overcome its current problems. The Brazilian midfielder highlighted Carlos, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Youri as players who can help change the team's fortunes.
Speaking to Premier League Productions' Preview Show, Santos stressed that everyone connected with the club must work together to improve the situation.
“The only way to change the situation here, our staff, our players, our supporters, is together,” Santos said.
“We have to believe because everyone wants to change the situation. We have to wake up and work hard every single day because we have a lot of good players – Carlos, Mason, Bruno, Kobbie, Youri. So I think this connection is so important.”
Santos' comments come at a challenging time for United, with the team struggling to deliver consistent performances despite having several talented players in their ranks.
Fernandes remains an important figure because of his creativity and leadership, while Mainoo's absence through injury has affected Carrick's midfield options. Mount, meanwhile, will be hoping to contribute more consistently after struggling with injuries since arriving from Chelsea.
Santos has also been working to establish himself in United's midfield after initially finding regular playing time difficult to secure. Mainoo's injury has provided him with an opportunity to feature more frequently, including in the defeat to Como.
The Brazilian's message is clear: United must respond collectively rather than rely on individual performances to solve their problems.
