Chelsea Receive Major Boost as Key Star Returns to Training Ahead of Tottenham Clash

According to Football London on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Malo Gusto's return to training has given Chelsea a much-needed boost as they continue to prepare for the London derby, their Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.

As Chelsea prepared for Saturday's match at Stamford Bridge, the French defender was seen participating in training. The news of his return is good news for head coach Xabi Alonso, who is aiming to field a full roster for the crucial match.

Gusto was unable to participate in Chelsea's recent 2-0 triumph over Everton due to illness. Although the defender was unable to play in the match due to injury, his participation in Thursday's practice indicates that he is improving and may be able to start against Tottenham.

Chelsea will need the 23-year-old's return if they want to keep their winning streak in the Premier League alive. Gaining confidence ahead of another tough test, the Blues won their last two games against Bournemouth and Everton.

In their first match, Chelsea prevailed 5-1 over Bournemouth. In their second match, they beat Everton 2-0, with Pedro Neto scoring both goals. The team's position has been strengthened and expectations have been increased ahead of their match against their London rivals, thanks to those results.

Because of the anticipated intensity of the match against Tottenham, Alonso may have an extra defensive option if Gusto is able to play. Because of his quickness, energy, and versatility, the defender is an asset to Chelsea's defense and offense.

But just because Gusto is back in training doesn't mean he'll start the game against Tottenham. Following his recent illness, the coaching staff must decide if he is fit enough to play a full Premier League match.

Chelsea will also want to make sure he doesn't go back too soon before he's ready. Still, it's encouraging to see him participate in training as the squad gets ready for the weekend.

Alonso will be looking for his team to keep up the discipline and attacking prowess they showed in their last wins against Tottenham, who will present a tough challenge. Chelsea will be looking to keep their winning streak against Spurs going after recent encouraging results.

Chelsea fans can breathe a sigh of relief regarding the availability of defender Gusto now that he is back in training. His condition just before kickoff will determine the final decision, but his return is a great boost for the club ahead of Saturday's London derby.
