According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Chelsea Women were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Everton Women after Lucy Bronze scored an own goal that cancelled out Sandy Baltimore’s first-half opener.
Chelsea entered the match hoping to secure all three points, but despite controlling much of the game and creating several scoring opportunities, they were unable to find a winning goal. Everton, on the other hand, showed determination in defence and made good use of their opportunities to earn a point away from home.
The Blues started brightly and put pressure on Everton from the opening minutes. Katie McCabe, Ellie Carpenter and Erin Cuthbert were involved in Chelsea’s early attacking moves as the hosts looked for a breakthrough. Melvine Malard also came close in the 18th minute, but her header failed to produce the opening goal.
Chelsea eventually took the lead in the 28th minute through Baltimore. The forward found space inside the penalty area and headed the ball into the net from close range after Bronze supplied a headed pass from a corner.
However, Chelsea’s advantage lasted only five minutes. In the 33rd minute, Bronze accidentally turned the ball into her own net, allowing Everton to equalise and change the direction of the contest.
Chelsea had another opportunity to move ahead before the break when Bronze headed against the crossbar in the 39th minute following McCabe’s corner. Malard also tested Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, who made important saves to prevent the home side from scoring again.
Chelsea made changes at the start of the second half, introducing Alexia Potter before bringing on Alyssa Thompson and Sjoeke Nüsken in the 55th minute. The substitutions were aimed at improving their attacking threat and finding a way through Everton’s defence.
The hosts continued to create chances, with Walsh, Nüsken and Bronze all attempting to restore their lead. However, Brosnan remained alert and produced more important saves. Chelsea later introduced Aggie Beever-Jones and Giulia Dragoni as they searched for a late winner.
Despite their pressure and four minutes of added time, the Blues could not find another goal. Everton held on until the final whistle, leaving both sides with a point from the 1-1 draw.
