Yan Diomande is making an increasingly strong case for a regular starting position at Real Madrid after delivering a series of impressive performances under Jose Mourinho, according to a report by Madrid Universal on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu during the summer and initially faced the challenge of adapting to the demands of Spanish football. However, his recent displays have made him one of the team's increasingly influential players.
The winger was once again outstanding during Sunday's emphatic win over Racing Santander, where he produced a remarkable performance capped by a spectacular goal.
The quality of his finish was reflected in the reported statistics, with the ball travelling at 120.2 kilometres per hour and recording 3.3 revolutions per second after he struck it.
Diomande's latest goal follows other impressive finishes this season, including a powerful right-footed strike against Sevilla and an excellent volley in Real Madrid's victory over RB Leipzig earlier in the campaign.
He has benefited from Vinicius Junior's absence, with the Brazilian currently serving a four-game suspension in La Liga. Diomande has made the most of his opportunity on the left flank, helping Madrid maintain a perfect winning record in matches he has started.
The youngster has made 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing four assists. His statistics underline the growing importance of his attacking contribution to Mourinho's team.
Furthermore, Diomande has recorded six direct goal contributions since the international break and completed 34 dribbles during that period. Only Kylian Mbappe, his teammate, has managed more, with a difference of just five dribbles between them.
Mourinho's admiration for the teenager also comes from his work rate away from the ball. The winger regularly tracks back to support his teammates and takes his defensive responsibilities seriously, qualities that could strengthen his chances of becoming a regular starter.
Rather than immediately placing pressure on the youngster, Mourinho introduced him gradually to the first team. That decision appears to be delivering positive results, as Diomande continues to establish himself within the squad.
However, his impressive form could create a difficult decision for Mourinho when Vinicius returns from suspension. The Real Madrid manager will have to consider whether Diomande has done enough to retain his place on the left wing or whether the Brazilian should immediately reclaim his position in the starting eleven.
