London City started the encounter brightly and created several opportunities during the opening stages. However, City's goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita remained alert to deal with the attempts.
Manchester City also had opportunities to take the lead before half-time. Rebecca Knaak tested Mary Earps with a header in the 38th minute, but the London City goalkeeper produced an important save. Grace Clinton also missed a close-range opportunity as both teams went into the break without scoring.
The visitors eventually broke the deadlock eight minutes after the restart. Lauren Hemp provided an excellent through ball for Khadija Shaw, who finished from inside the penalty area in the 53rd minute to put Manchester City ahead.
London City attempted to respond and introduced Nicole Anyomi and Delphine Cascarino to strengthen their attacking options. Their efforts eventually paid off in the 72nd minute when Jana Fernández headed home from close range following an excellent cross from Mapi León.
However, Manchester City restored their lead just two minutes later. Mary Fowler delivered a cross into the penalty area, and Lauren Hemp finished with her left foot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.
London City continued searching for another equaliser, but City's defence remained organised. Delphine Cascarino tested Yamashita in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper made another important save.
Four minutes of added time were played, but Manchester City successfully protected their advantage to secure a 2-1 away victory.
