According to a report by Metro on Thursday October 22, 2026, Manchester United have decided to keep Michael Carrick in charge for Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth despite growing pressure following their humiliating 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League.
Carrick's position came under serious scrutiny after United suffered another disappointing result in Italy on Wednesday, with captain Bruno Fernandes publicly criticising the manager's tactics following the match.
However, according to Metro, the club are treating the situation as business as usual ahead of Bournemouth's visit to Old Trafford, with Carrick not facing an immediate threat to his position.
United have collected just seven points from seven Premier League matches this season, with their only victory coming against newly promoted Ipswich Town in August. Their latest European defeat has further increased concerns about the team's performances.
Despite allowing Carrick to remain in charge for the weekend, the report claims that United have begun identifying potential replacements should they decide to make a change in the dugout.
Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte, Fabian Hurzeler, Julian Nagelsmann, Kieran McKenna and Cesc Fabregas are among the names linked with the job.
Conte is reportedly viewed with reservations by some United officials because his management style may not fit the club's preferred structure. Meanwhile, Howe and Nagelsmann have also emerged as possible candidates.
Carrick will now be expected to prepare his players for Sunday's encounter against Bournemouth as United look to end their disappointing run of results.
Following that fixture, the Red Devils will travel to face Chelsea on October 31 before returning to Champions League action against Roma.
