WSL Table After Arsenal Drew 1-1

According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Arsenal Women were held to a 1-1 draw by Aston Villa Women in an entertaining Women's Super League fixture, with Alessia Russo scoring a late goal to prevent the Gunners from suffering a disappointing defeat.

Arsenal dominated large portions of the encounter but found it difficult to turn their attacking chances into goals. The visitors created several opportunities in the first half, yet Aston Villa goalkeeper Akane Okuma produced some impressive saves to keep her team in the contest.

Caitlin Foord was among the first Arsenal players to threaten the opposition goal, but her effort in the 11th minute was comfortably stopped by Okuma. Georgia Stanway and Taylor Hinds also attempted to give the Gunners an early advantage.

However, Aston Villa took the lead in the 25th minute through Chasity Grant. The forward received a well-timed pass from Lynn Wilms before sending a right-footed shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Arsenal continued attacking in search of an immediate response, but their efforts were unsuccessful before the interval. Okuma denied another attempt from Stanway, while Kyra Cooney-Cross failed to direct her header into the net from a promising position.

Following the restart, Arsenal introduced Emily Fox and Lisa Baum as replacements for Taylor Hinds and Géraldine Reuteler. The changes helped the visitors maintain their attacking momentum as they continued putting pressure on Aston Villa.

The home side's goalkeeper remained busy, making crucial interventions to deny Baum and Kim Little. Nevertheless, Arsenal eventually got their reward in the 85th minute when Alessia Russo found the equaliser.

Stina Blackstenius played an excellent delivery into the penalty area, and Russo connected with a powerful header that found the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

Arsenal attempted to complete the comeback by scoring another goal during stoppage time. Russo, Foord and Ona Batlle all had opportunities to snatch a late victory, but Aston Villa successfully defended their goal.

The referee eventually brought the contest to an end with both teams sharing the points. Arsenal will be disappointed that they could not secure victory after creating several chances, while Aston Villa will be pleased with their resilience against one of the league's strongest sides.
