Manchester City continued their UEFA Champions League campaign with an important 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig after surviving a challenging second-half battle against the German side.
According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Pep Guardiola's men secured all three points in an entertaining encounter after both teams exchanged goals following a first-half own goal that gave the visitors the advantage.
Manchester City started the match strongly, dominating possession and creating several opportunities as they looked to take control of the game. Rayan Cherki nearly opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but his effort from inside the box went narrowly wide. Leipzig also threatened through Antonio Nusa, whose powerful attempt was denied by an impressive save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The visitors eventually took the lead in the 37th minute following an unfortunate mistake by Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba. The defender turned a dangerous delivery from Manchester City into his own net, giving the Premier League side a 1-0 advantage heading into the half-time break.
Leipzig responded positively after the restart and found an equaliser just four minutes into the second half. Ridle Baku produced an excellent finish from a difficult angle in the 49th minute to make it 1-1. The hosts continued pushing forward, but Donnarumma came to City's rescue with an important save to prevent Baku from scoring again from close range.
Manchester City restored their lead in the 58th minute through Enzo Fernandez, who connected with a brilliant cross from Iliman Ndiaye before directing a powerful header into the bottom corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt.
However, Leipzig refused to give up and brought the game level once again just three minutes later. Christopher Nkunku produced an excellent lofted pass into the penalty area, allowing Antonio Nusa to finish confidently into the bottom-right corner and make it 2-2.
The encounter continued to produce exciting moments as both sides searched for a winner. Leipzig came close to taking the lead when David Raum's free-kick struck the crossbar, while Cherki also went close for City after seeing his effort hit the woodwork.
City eventually found the decisive goal in the 78th minute. Elliot Anderson played an important role in creating the opportunity before Erling Haaland calmly tapped the ball into an unguarded net to put the visitors ahead for the third time in the match.
Leipzig pushed forward in search of another equaliser during the closing stages, but Manchester City's defence managed to withstand the pressure. Brajan Gruda briefly thought he had scored, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside, while Donnarumma produced another crucial save to deny Haaland an opportunity to extend City's advantage.
Despite Leipzig's late attempts to rescue a point, Manchester City held firm until the final whistle to secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory and collect another important three points in their Champions League campaign.
