According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Chelsea Women were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton Women after Lucy Bronze scored an unfortunate own goal to cancel out Sandy Baltimore’s first-half goal.
Chelsea went into the encounter determined to claim maximum points, but despite dominating large portions of the match and creating several opportunities, they failed to secure a winning goal. Everton, meanwhile, displayed resilience at the back and capitalised on their opportunity to leave with a valuable point.
The Blues made an energetic start, putting their opponents under pressure from the opening stages. Katie McCabe, Ellie Carpenter and Erin Cuthbert played important roles in Chelsea’s early attacking efforts as the hosts searched for the breakthrough. Melvine Malard also threatened in the 18th minute, but her header failed to find the back of the net.
Chelsea eventually broke the deadlock in the 28th minute through Baltimore. The forward found space inside the penalty area and headed home from close range after Bronze directed the ball towards her with a header from a corner kick.
However, the home side's lead lasted just five minutes before Everton restored parity. In the 33rd minute, Bronze inadvertently diverted the ball into her own net, handing the visitors an equaliser and shifting the momentum of the contest.
Chelsea came close to regaining their advantage before half-time when Bronze's header struck the crossbar in the 39th minute following another corner delivered by McCabe. Malard also tested Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, but the shot-stopper produced crucial saves to keep the visitors on level terms.
At the beginning of the second half, Chelsea introduced Alexia Potter in an attempt to strengthen their attacking options. Alyssa Thompson and Sjoeke Nüsken were subsequently brought on in the 55th minute as the Blues continued searching for a way past Everton's defence.
The hosts maintained their attacking pressure, with Walsh, Nüsken and Bronze all making attempts to put Chelsea back in front. However, Brosnan remained impressive between the posts, making further important interventions to deny the home side.
Chelsea later introduced Aggie Beever-Jones and Giulia Dragoni as they intensified their efforts to find a late winner. Despite their sustained pressure and four minutes of added time, the Blues were unable to score again.
Everton successfully defended their lead until the final whistle, ensuring that the contest ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams taking a point from the encounter.
