According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, November 2, 2026, Everton secured a significant 1-0 victory against Newcastle United away from home, thanks to a second-half goal from Thierno Barry, who found the net to give his team all three points.
Both teams approached the encounter with attacking ambitions, although clear scoring opportunities were limited during the opening stages. Everton threatened through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Garner, while Newcastle struggled to turn their possession into meaningful chances in the attacking area.
Newcastle gradually increased their attacking pressure as the first half continued. Joelinton came close to breaking the deadlock with an effort that went just wide, while Dan Burn also failed to convert a headed opportunity from close range. Everton responded with a header from Jake O’Brien, but his attempt also missed the target.
The goalkeepers were kept busy before half-time, with Jordan Pickford making himself available whenever Newcastle threatened. At the other end, Lukas Hornicek produced important saves to keep Everton from scoring. Despite some promising attacking moments, neither side managed to find the breakthrough before the interval.
The visitors eventually took the lead just four minutes into the second half. Tyrique George initially attempted a close-range volley, but Hornicek managed to stop his effort. However, Barry reacted quickly to the rebound and finished into the net to put Everton ahead.
Newcastle immediately intensified their search for an equaliser, but Pickford stood firm with several impressive interventions. He denied attempts from Dewsbury-Hall and O’Brien as the home side continued to push forward.
Anthony Elanga came close to restoring parity for Newcastle, but his effort struck the woodwork. Fabian Schär, Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey also featured in the hosts' attacking efforts, although Everton's defence remained difficult to break down.
The visitors maintained their defensive discipline during eight minutes of additional time. Pickford continued his excellent performance by stopping another attempt from Wissa, while William Osula failed to make the most of a headed opportunity.
Ultimately, Barry's second-half strike separated both teams, handing Everton a crucial 1-0 away win. Newcastle, meanwhile, were left frustrated after failing to find an equaliser despite creating several opportunities in front of their home supporters.
