Joe Cole Tells Man Utd To Sell £57m Lisandro Martinez After Chelsea Defeat

According to a report by Metro on Saturday, 31 October 2026, after Manchester United's 2-0 Premier League loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole questioned defender Lisandro Martinez's future with the club.

Cole thinks that Martinez's career with Manchester United is over following his costly dismissal against Xabi Alonso's team.

The loss added another game to Manchester United's winless streak, bringing more pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

Additionally, United could fall into the Premier League relegation zone by weekend's end as a result of this result.

Morgan Rogers scored a spectacular goal for Chelsea five minutes into the second half after a brilliant solo effort that saw him dribble past United's midfield and beat Senne Lammens.

During another risky attack, Martinez was yellow-carded for dragging back the Chelsea midfielder Rogers, who he had trouble controlling.

The Argentine defender's day took a turn for the worse when, while defending a corner taken by Estêvão Willian, he lifted his forearm toward Wesley Fofana.

After consulting the video assistant referee, the official gave the ball to Chelsea and sent Martinez to the bench with a second yellow card, reducing Manchester United's roster to ten players.

Cole raised doubts about the defender's future at Old Trafford while appearing on TNT Sports.

Cole declared, "I think Lisandro Martinez has run his course," in reference to Manchester United's current manager.

Despite praising Martinez's work with Argentina, the ex-Chelsea midfielder claimed that United's defender had made too many costly errors.

We all know that he has been sensational while representing Argentina and has accomplished so much.

However, for Manchester United, he is often the one responsible for such moments and goals because he is always there. Therefore, I believe that's likely the end of his tenure.

Cole was also dissatisfied with Martinez's response during the incident that led to his termination.

I don't understand. He threw away his rag. I believe he has been cornered, which has put him in a vulnerable position and caused him to lose his rag. It's a huge error.

Cole Palmer added to Chelsea's lead in the 64th minute by converting the penalty.

Meanwhile, Martinez's present deal with Manchester United is set to expire at the season's end, so his future there could become a big topic of discussion. On the other hand, the club can choose to extend his contract for an additional year.
