According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Chelsea suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat in their Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues struggled to control the game for long periods as Tottenham enjoyed more possession and looked more dangerous whenever they moved forward. Chelsea tried to create chances through Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and Morgan Rogers, but they found it difficult to break through the visitors' defence and turn their efforts into goals.
Despite Chelsea's attempts to take the lead, Tottenham remained patient and continued to put pressure on the home side, although both teams went into the half-time break without scoring. Chelsea needed a better performance after the restart, but their problems increased as Tottenham gradually took greater control of the contest.
The visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 77th minute when a corner from Mateus Fernandes resulted in an unfortunate own goal by Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders. The goal gave Tottenham the advantage they had been working towards and left Chelsea with little time to recover.
Things became even worse for the Blues three minutes later when Cole Palmer received a second yellow card and was sent off following a dangerous challenge on Conor Gallagher. Chelsea were forced to continue with ten men, making their chances of finding an equaliser even more difficult.
Tottenham took full advantage of the situation and sealed their victory in the 87th minute when Mathys Tel produced an excellent individual effort before firing a right-footed shot from outside the box into the net. Chelsea could not find a response in the closing stages, as Tottenham comfortably protected their lead until the final whistle.
Despite the defeat, Chelsea remain fourth in the Premier League table with 13 points, but could drop out of the top four if Brighton win on Sunday. Tottenham, meanwhile, climbed to 12th position with nine points after claiming an important away victory.
