According to ESPN’s report on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos came close to breaking the deadlock against Brazil in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup semi-final, but Queen Joseph’s effort was denied by an impressive save in the 21st minute.
The opportunity came at Pitch 3 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, where Nigeria were pushing forward in search of the opening goal. However, Brazil’s goalkeeper reacted quickly to keep out Joseph’s attempt and maintain the scoreline.
The save followed earlier attacking threats from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Oluebube Umejiaku, as the Flamingos continued to demonstrate their attacking potential while chasing a historic place in the final.
Nigeria entered the semi-final after defeating Venezuela 1-0 in the quarter-finals. Captain Azeezat Oduntan scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to send her team through.
Brazil, meanwhile, secured their semi-final ticket with a 2-1 victory over China PR, with Helena scoring both goals for the South American side.
With Japan already through to the final, Nigeria and Brazil were battling for the remaining place in the tournament’s showpiece match.
At the 21-minute mark, neither side had found the net, leaving the contest finely balanced as the Flamingos continued searching for a breakthrough. Joseph and her teammates would need to convert their opportunities to overcome the Brazilian defence and move closer to the title.
