According to a report by BBC SPORT on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Erling Haaland delivered another important performance for Manchester City as they secured an entertaining 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in their Champions League encounter.
The Norwegian striker played a decisive role in City's attacking display, eventually getting his name on the scoresheet to help his side claim all three points after a difficult second-half battle.
Manchester City started the encounter positively, controlling possession and creating opportunities in the opening stages. Haaland remained a constant threat to the Leipzig defence with his movement and attempts to find space inside the penalty area. However, his first-half efforts were unsuccessful as goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt dealt comfortably with his close-range header in the 39th minute.
City eventually took the lead in the 37th minute when Castello Lukeba accidentally turned a pass into his own net. Although Haaland did not register the opening goal, his presence in the attacking areas helped keep the opposition defence occupied.
The striker continued to search for a goal after the restart and came close to finding the net in the 53rd minute. He collected an excellent pass inside the penalty area and attempted a low drive towards the bottom-right corner, but Vandevoordt produced an impressive diving save to deny him.
Despite Leipzig equalising through Ridle Baku in the 49th minute, City regained their advantage when Enzo Fernandez headed home Iliman Ndiaye's excellent cross in the 58th minute. However, Antonio Nusa restored parity for the hosts three minutes later.
Haaland eventually made the difference in the 78th minute, finishing from close range after Elliot Anderson delivered an excellent assist. Anderson's contribution left the Norwegian with an opportunity to tap the ball into an empty net, giving Manchester City a crucial 3-2 advantage.
The striker almost added another goal in the closing stages, but his effort towards the bottom-right corner was brilliantly saved by Vandevoordt in the 90th minute.
His persistence, attacking movement and decisive contribution made him deserving of the Man of the Match recognition as Manchester City held on to secure a valuable Champions League victory.
