According to a report by Flashscore on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Liverpool suffered a frustrating 3-2 defeat to Fenerbahce in their UEFA Champions League clash after allowing the Turkish side to overturn their advantage in the second half.
Trey Nyoni opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 25th minute before Mason Greenwood brought Fenerbahce level. Alexander Isak put the visitors back in front in the 69th minute, but defensive lapses allowed Archie Brown and Vedat Muriqi to score and complete a remarkable comeback for the home side.
Although Liverpool created several chances during the encounter, a number of their players failed to produce the required quality at crucial moments. Four players, in particular, endured difficult performances against Fenerbahce.
1. Virgil van Dijk
Virgil van Dijk had a disappointing outing as Liverpool's defence struggled to maintain its advantage. The centre-back gave away a free kick in the 33rd minute after bringing down an opposing player. He came close to scoring from a corner in the 57th minute, but Ederson produced an impressive save to keep out his header. His most costly moment came during stoppage time when he failed to convert a golden opportunity to rescue a point, sending his close-range effort over the crossbar after receiving a pass from Cody Gakpo.
2. Joe Gomez
Joe Gomez also struggled to make a meaningful contribution despite his involvement in Liverpool's attacking moves. In the 21st minute, he worked his way past several challenges inside the penalty area but failed to find Bradley Barcola with an accurate pass, allowing a promising opportunity to go to waste. His attempt from distance in the 61st minute was also far from the target, going wide of the left post. Liverpool would have expected better decision-making and precision from him in those important situations.
3. Dominik Szoboszlai
Dominik Szoboszlai delivered an underwhelming performance, particularly when taking set pieces. Several of his corner deliveries failed to trouble Fenerbahce's defence, including those in the 20th, 24th and 62nd minutes. His free kick in the 54th minute was also easily gathered by the goalkeeper. Even another corner late in stoppage time failed to create a meaningful opportunity, as the midfielder struggled to provide the attacking quality Liverpool needed.
4. Bradley Barcola
Bradley Barcola was another Liverpool player who failed to make the most of his opportunities against Fenerbahce. The forward missed a good chance in the 37th minute when he connected with Victor Munoz's cross but directed his header narrowly wide of the right post. He also found himself caught offside several times, including in the 78th minute. Despite attempting to cause problems for the opposition defence, his poor finishing and positioning limited his impact on the match.
