According to a post on AFC Ajax official X account on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has won the Player of the Match award after single-handedly firing Ajax to a 1-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar in their Eredivisie encounter on Saturday night.

The Nigerian forward proved decisive at the Johan Cruyff Arena by scoring the only goal of the encounter in the ninth minute to hand the Amsterdam-based club all three points.

Arokodare rose above his marker to connect with a cross from 17-year-old Abdellah Ouazane by directing a powerful header into the net to give Ajax an early lead.

His match-winning contribution earned him the Player of the Match recognition, where he received a rating of 7.7 on CheckLive for his performance.

The 25-year-old striker continued to threaten the AZ defence before being substituted in the 74th minute to make way for Steven Berghuis.

According to Ajax's official match report, the goal was Arokodare's tenth in 15 appearances across all competitions for the Dutch giants.

He has also scored 10 times in his last 12 matches for the club.

The victory was particularly important for Ajax, as it ended their 11-match winless run against AZ in league meetings.

The result also strengthened Ajax's position in the Eredivisie title race, as they closed the gap on league leaders Feyenoord.

Arokodare's latest contribution further highlights his growing importance to Ajax, with the Nigerian striker continuing to deliver decisive performances for the club.

The forward is expected to be included in Eric Chelle's squad for the 2027 Afcon qualifier double-header against Tanzania later this month.
