According to a report from FootballTransfers, on Sunday November 01, 2026, Alexis Mac Allister says Liverpool’s recent changes in leadership could affect whether he signs a new contract, although he insists his immediate focus is on playing.
The midfielder has two years remaining on his deal. Earlier this season, he expressed disappointment that Liverpool had not offered him an extension, especially after teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai agreed new contracts.
Mac Allister said the situation had not changed, but pointed to the appointment of sporting director Julian Ward and the arrival of new minority owners as developments that could influence what happens next.
“There is a new sporting director. There is new ownership coming into the club, so everything can happen and we will see,” he told the *Liverpool Echo*. “Right now, I’m just enjoying my football and playing for this amazing club. We will see what happens in the future.”
The Argentina international joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 and has remained an important part of the team. Real Madrid have reportedly been monitoring him, with speculation that they could pursue a move next summer or wait until his contract expires in 2028.
Mac Allister previously said he was “very, very sad” that talks over a new deal had not progressed. Liverpool, meanwhile, are reportedly in no rush to renew his contract as they consider changes to their midfield, with Lamine Camara among the players linked with the club.
