According to a report by FootballTransfers on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Manchester United are not expected to sack head coach Michael Carrick immediately, despite growing concerns over the club’s poor results and position in the Premier League.
The club is reportedly planning to wait until the upcoming international break before making a final decision on Carrick’s future, according to The Athletic. This means the 45-year-old could remain in charge for at least the next two fixtures as United continue to assess their situation.
United’s recent 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday has increased the pressure on the manager. The result extended their winless run to nine matches and left them 17th in the Premier League table. They are currently outside the relegation zone only because of a superior goal difference, raising concerns among supporters about the team’s position.
Carrick was widely expected to lose his job last week. However, reports suggest that Manchester United had not reached an agreement over a suitable replacement, making it difficult for the club to proceed with an immediate managerial change. As a result, he was allowed to remain in charge for the meeting with Chelsea.
The latest defeat at Stamford Bridge has also brought further attention to the team’s performances. United conceded twice in the second half, while defender Lisandro Martínez received a red card during the period between the two goals.
Interestingly, some sections of the United fanbase have directed their frustration towards the players rather than Carrick. The manager has received applause from some supporters, who believe the squad has not shown enough commitment and responsibility on the pitch.
Meanwhile, the club is continuing to examine possible replacements, although no candidate has emerged as the leading choice. Eddie Howe is reportedly admired by director of football Jason Wilcox, while Julian Nagelsmann is another name believed to have support within the club. Unai Emery and Antonio Conte are also among the managers being considered.
Carrick’s immediate future could depend heavily on United’s next two matches. The club will host Roma on Tuesday before travelling to face Aston Villa in their final fixture before the international break.
A positive result against Roma could provide some relief, but the meeting with Aston Villa may carry greater importance in determining whether Carrick gets more time or Manchester United decide to appoint a new manager.
