According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, October 31, 2026, former Galatasaray striker Ümit Karan has hailed Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen for his show of character after allowing teammate Rafael Leão to take a penalty during Galatasaray’s 4-0 victory over Konyaspor.
Osimhen, who is enjoying an impressive goalscoring campaign in Turkey, demonstrated his team spirit by handing the ball to Leão, who converted the penalty to register his first goal for Galatasaray.
The Nigerian striker had already opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a powerful header from Gabriel Sara’s free-kick before Yunus Akgün and Aleksey Batrakov extended the visitors’ advantage.
Leão completed the 4-0 victory in the 55th minute after converting the penalty, with Osimhen choosing to give his teammate the opportunity to get on the scoresheet.
Reacting to the gesture, Karan described the Nigerian international’s decision as a remarkable demonstration of character, particularly for a striker competing for the league’s top goalscorer award.
“You're heading to the top of the goal-scoring charts, and giving the ball to Leão there is a true mark of character. For a striker, this is the toughest move to make,” Karan said.
“He might score his 10th goal, but he's saying, 'Let my friend win one too.' These are the moves that make a team champions.”
The former Galatasaray forward also showered Osimhen with further praise, describing him as the father of the Turkish top flight.
“I want to sincerely congratulate Osimhen once again; I'm applauding Osimhen, the father of this league,” he added.
Osimhen's latest goal took his Turkish Süper Lig tally to nine goals in eight appearances this season.
The emphatic victory also strengthened Galatasaray's position at the top of the league table, with Okan Buruk's side continuing their impressive campaign.
