Flamingos shock Brazil 3-1, storm FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup final

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, delivered one of the biggest victories in the country’s youth football history on Wednesday night, defeating Brazil 3-1 to book a place in the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The landmark victory at the Mohammed V Stadium in Morocco sends Nigeria into the tournament’s final for the first time, where the Flamingos will face Japan on Saturday with the title at stake.

After a goalless first half, the Flamingos emerged from the break with greater purpose and quickly took control of the contest.

Queen Joseph broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, finishing brilliantly to hand Nigeria a deserved lead after a dominant display.

Awawu Bashiru doubled the advantage in the 71st minute before completing her brace in the 80th minute to put the result beyond Brazil’s reach.

Brazil’s Greise Kelly scored in the 89th minute, but the late effort was only a consolation as Nigeria comfortably held on to secure a famous victory.

The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among the players and coaching crew as the Flamingos sealed a historic place in the World Cup final.

Nigeria will now take on Japan in Saturday’s final, with the Flamingos aiming to become the first Nigerian side to lift the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy.

The victory reinforces Nigeria’s growing reputation in women’s youth football and marks another significant milestone for the country’s football development.

With confidence soaring after eliminating one of the tournament’s favourites, the Flamingos will head into the final determined to complete their historic journey by bringing the world title home.
