The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Samson Adamu as its new General Secretary following a comprehensive, competitive recruitment process.
Adamu had been serving as acting General Secretary since March, succeeding Veron Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down to assume the presidency of the Football Federation of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the position was widely advertised before a selection committee interviewed several short-listed candidates.
Adamu has been with CAF since 2018, previously holding leadership roles as Director of Competitions and Director of Tournaments and Events. During his tenure, he played a central role in organizing major continental tournaments, including the flagship TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
A graduate of the prestigious FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law, and Humanities of Sport, Adamu brings vast administrative experience and institutional knowledge to the role. He is the son of Amos Adamu, a former Director of Sports in Nigeria’s Ministry of Sports and a former FIFA Executive Committee member.
In his new position, Adamu will oversee CAF’s daily administrative operations and drive the execution of its long-term strategic priorities across the continent.
