Erling Haaland continued his remarkable scoring record against RB Leipzig as Manchester City secured a 3-2 Champions League win in Germany to end their recent run of disappointing results.
The Norwegian striker scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute, converting Elliot Anderson’s low cross to give Enzo Maresca’s side all three points after an entertaining contest.
City had entered the match looking to respond to consecutive Premier League defeats and a penalty shootout victory over Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
Leipzig made the brighter start, creating the better opportunities while City struggled to turn their possession into clear chances.
Antonio Nusa came close with an effort from outside the penalty area that slipped through Gianluigi Donnarumma’s grasp before landing on the roof of the net.
Christoph Baumgartner also threatened, curling an attempt narrowly wide of the far post.
However, City took the lead through an unfortunate moment from Castello Lukeba. The Leipzig defender lost his footing while attempting to deal with Nico O’Reilly’s cross and inadvertently sent the ball into his own net.
Leipzig restored parity shortly after the break when Ridle Baku caught Donnarumma out at his near post, squeezing his effort past the Italian goalkeeper.
City regained the lead in the 57th minute through Enzo Fernandez, who powered a header into the net.
But their advantage lasted only three minutes. Nusa made amends for his earlier miss by driving a superb low finish past Donnarumma to bring Leipzig level again.
With the contest finely balanced, City continued pushing for a winner and found it through their captain.
Anderson delivered a low cross into the penalty area, allowing Haaland to slide the ball home in the 78th minute and complete the scoring.
The goal was Haaland’s 13th in nine appearances against Leipzig, underlining his impressive record against the German side.
The victory gives City a welcome response after their recent domestic setbacks and strengthens their position in the Champions League league phase.
