Nottingham Forest got back to winning ways against Manchester City with an impressive 3-1 victory to give Oliver Glasner’s era a lift off.

One week after Oliver Glasner’s outburst, his Nottingham Forest players reacted perfectly with an enthralling performance in which the squad stepped up massively and played the fight needed. Forest had several top performers in the game, but Liam Delap was, without a doubt, the spotlight grabber.

Delap scored two brilliant goals, linked up well, and did his job defensively. He was a real handful, but Jamie Redknapp has actually highlighted another Forest star for his role.

Jamie Redknapp highlights Ryan Yates’ importance for Nottingham Forest

After the game, Redknapp was doing punditry for Sky Sports, and while he did praise Delap. He also had plenty of kind words for Ryan Yates, who got a rare start in midfield and excelled.

“If you go through the quality, they’ve got plenty; they just needed to get the balance right”, Redknapp explained before commenting on Yates’ importance.

“It’s no surprise to me that Ryan Yates gets back in the team and they win three points.”

Yates starting is much more than just based on his quality, but in a tough moment, he is a leader who will fight for the badge, and he could be seen motivating teammates and being the man in the middle that has been lacking.

Going forward, Yates is probably a must-start for Forest. He didn’t have the ball a lot because Forest didn’t. But in his duels and defensive work, he was stellar. With the mental side of things massively benefiting.

What Yates said about Forest’s victory

After the game had ended, Yates also spoke to Sky Sports, explaining how the result was just what Forest deserved, having been frustrated with underperforming expected goals all season.

“People have been speaking about xG and creating chances and there has been huge proof of doing that game by game, but we have not been able to pick up points.

“But today we were ruthless in front of goal, we started so well and I’m absolutely buzzing to be honest.”

Forest have been a top four side on paper this season and this win reflected that. Now, the Reds should shoot right up the table.
