Flying Antelopes seek to extend lead at home

League leaders Rangers host Kwara United in Awka on Sunday in Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 12, with the defending champions looking to extend their lead at the top of the table. Kick-off is at 4pm.

The Flying Antelopes have 21 points from 10 matches. They have scored 16 goals and conceded 10. They have recovered well from the disappointment of their CAF Champions League exit, drawing 1-1 with Rivers United last Sunday before beating Bendel Insurance 1-0 in their rescheduled Matchday nine fixture on Wednesday.

Rangers have also moved to make the occasion special for their supporters. The club announced on Saturday that it has arranged free buses to take fans from the Rangers Camp in Enugu to the stadium in Awka. Supporters have been asked to gather at the camp by 12 noon, and the club has urged them to turn out in numbers for what it called a crucial regional clash.

The Harmony Boys arrive in a more difficult position. They are 16th with 12 points from 11 matches, with three wins. They have scored 12 goals and conceded 13. They lost 2-1 to Bendel Insurance in Ilorin last Sunday, and they have struggled for consistency, alternating between defeats and wins in recent weeks.

Kwara will take some encouragement from the fact that the champions have conceded 10 goals this season, but they will know that Rangers are among the strongest sides in the league and are unlikely to take their foot off the pedal at home.

For Rangers, a win would strengthen their grip on top spot before the next round of fixtures. For Kwara, it would be a major result and a timely boost in a season in which they are still looking for their first real run of form.
