Patrick Kaddu has urged Kitara FC to put their first-leg defeat behind them and focus on the job ahead as they prepare to face Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC in the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup Round of 32 tie in Cairo on Sunday.
The striker insists the Royals have moved on from their 2-1 loss in Hoima and are ready to give their best as they seek to overturn the deficit and keep their continental campaign alive.
“The team is okay, reached very well, the journey was amazing. Yeah, I’ve never played here, but that is history. What I did here is history,” Kaddu said.
“We are focussing on our game tomorrow, and we want the best for the team. As I said, we know football is of today, as I said. So, past is past, we have put everything aside, we are focussing on tomorrow’s game.”
Kitara arrived in Cairo on Friday, October 23, with 24 players and nine technical officials for the decisive encounter. Head coach Wasswa Bbosa leads the Ugandan delegation, hoping to guide his side past one of Africa’s most successful clubs.
The Royals have work to do after surrendering their first-leg advantage at Hoima City Stadium. Gaddafi Wahab put Kitara ahead early, but Al Ahly fought back through Omar Al-Saai and Ahmed Sayed Zizo to claim a 2-1 victory.
That result leaves Kitara needing a strong performance in Egypt to turn the tie around. Al Ahly, 12-time CAF Champions League winners, will have home advantage, making the task even tougher for the Ugandan side.
However, Bbosa remains confident that his team can cause an upset, while Kaddu’s message is clear: the first leg is history, and their attention is firmly on Sunday.
Kitara will kick off at 4:00 p.m. (East African Time) at Cairo International Stadium, knowing that their performance on the day will determine whether their continental journey continues.
