Rangers crash out of CAF Champions League after 3-0 defeat to MC Alger
Rangers International have crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing 3-0 to MC Alger in the second leg of their second preliminary round tie in Algeria on Friday.
The Nigerian champions surrendered their two-goal first-leg advantage as MC Alger secured a 3-2 aggregate victory to advance to the next qualifying round.
Rangers had taken control of the tie with a 2-0 win in the first leg at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, courtesy of goals from Kenneth Igboke and James Emo.
However, MC Alger fought back in front of their home supporters at the Ali La Pointe Stadium, with Boukholda opening the scoring in the 58th minute before Bangoura doubled the lead in the 84th minute.
Bayazid then struck in stoppage time to complete the comeback and seal the Algerian side’s progression on aggregate.
The defeat ends Rangers International’s continental campaign, while MC Alger advance to the next qualifying round after overturning a two-goal deficit.
