According to a report by Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, October 30, 2026, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed ambitious plans to host a mega football friendly between Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal in Nairobi.
The high-profile match is projected to take place around June or July 2027, following the conclusion of the English Premier League season.
Speaking to residents of Makutano in Marakwet West, Murkomen suggested that the game would be staged at the new 60,000-seater Raila Odinga International Stadium.
The facility, located at Talanta Sports City, is currently under construction as part of the country's preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to the CS, the government is determined to attract major international sporting events to Kenya.
He disclosed that the proposed Arsenal versus Manchester United clash would follow another major fixture scheduled for January 5, 2027, where German heavyweights Bayern Munich are expected to face Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam to officially open the stadium.
"For the first time ever, Kenya is respected. We are now hosting Bayern Munich and Ajax," Murkomen told the crowd, adding that the upcoming matches will showcase the country's upgraded sports infrastructure on a global scale.
A potential match between the two English clubs would be a historic milestone, given their massive, passionate fanbases across East Africa.
As the construction of the stadium continues, sports enthusiasts and stakeholders will be eagerly watching to see if these high-stakes promises materialise into reality ahead of the AFCON tournament.
