Tanzanian football supporters are hoping to see English Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United headline the opening celebrations of the new Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium in Arusha.
The calls have emerged following reports that President Samia Suluhu Hassan is engaging the two clubs over a possible high-profile friendly at the facility. However, neither club has officially confirmed an agreement to play in Tanzania.
Journalist Uwezo Ali brought the possibility into the public discussion through a Facebook post on Saturday, October 31, 2026, suggesting that the proposed fixture could form part of the stadium's inauguration celebrations. The prospect has generated excitement among football followers eager to witness two of England's most recognised clubs playing on Tanzanian soil.
The conversation has also attracted humorous suggestions from supporters. Tanzanian social media personality Samuel Kitangala proposed an alternative involving Arsenal and their city rivals Manchester City.
The development comes as neighbouring Kenya prepares for another major football occasion. German giants Bayern Munich are scheduled to face Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam on January 5, 2027, at the 60,000-capacity Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi. The fixture is expected to mark the opening of the new facility.
The two countries are preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda, making major sporting infrastructure and international football fixtures an important part of their preparations.
For now, Tanzanian fans are waiting for official confirmation of the proposed Arsenal-Manchester United encounter.
