Ulinzi Starlets Open Three-Point WPL Lead After Police Victory

Ulinzi Starlets maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 FKF Women's Premier League season after edging Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 in the Disciplined Forces derby on Saturday.

Sharon Nambengele scored the decisive goal in the 11th minute as the Soldiers claimed a sixth consecutive victory and moved to 18 points, opening a three-point gap over Police, who suffered their first defeat of the campaign.

The meeting brought together the league's two unbeaten sides, with both teams having won their opening four matches.

Ulinzi began the contest at the top of the standings on goal difference, but their latest victory has given them a stronger advantage in the early title race.

The hosts made the better start, controlling possession and putting the Police defence under pressure.

Their early dominance paid off when Beverline Adika found Nambengele with a well-weighted pass.

The forward lifted the ball over advancing goalkeeper Annedy Kundu to give Ulinzi the lead.

Police attempted to respond, with Lorna Nyabuto sending a free-kick over the crossbar in the 18th minute.

Ulinzi threatened to increase their advantage six minutes later when Nambengele set up Siliya Rasoha, whose effort narrowly missed the target.

As the first half progressed, Police enjoyed more of the ball, but Ulinzi remained organised defensively and went into the break with their advantage intact.

Collins Ochieng's side continued to defend compactly after the restart, limiting the opportunities available to their opponents.

Police struggled to find a way through the home defence despite growing control of the midfield.

Their clearest opportunity came in the 63rd minute when Tereza Engesha tested goalkeeper Velma Abwire. The Ulinzi shot-stopper produced an important save to preserve the lead.

Ulinzi now have 18 points from six matches and remain firmly in control at the top of the WPL standings.
