AFC Leopards brought a decisive end to their early-season goal shyness by securing their first home victory of the 2026/27 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) campaign, defeating fierce Ingo Derby rivals Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in the highly anticipated Ingo Derby at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Fred Ambani’s charges entered the high-stakes encounter having managed just two goals in their opening four matches, but they put that stark statistic firmly behind them with goals from defender Emmanuel Lwangu and winger James Kinyanjui to deliver a clinical display, securing all three points alongside local derby bragging rights.

Lwangu’s repeat heroics vs Homeboyz

Lwangu, drafted into the starting lineup as part of Ambani’s tactical adjustment, put Ingwe ahead to break the deadlock late in a cagey first half where both sides had threatened early on.

The centre-back rose highest to head home a delivery from Kinyanjui to head the ball past the Homeboyz goalkeeper. Remarkably, the crucial strike marked back-to-back goals for Lwangu against Kakamega Homeboyz, having also found the net against the exact same opponent in their previous league encounter.

After the setback, Edward Manoah’s Homeboyz side attempted to orchestrate a quick route back into the contest, pushing numbers forward to construct dangerous set-piece scenarios.

Halftime interval

However, Leopards’ backline held firm to protect their lead heading into the halftime break.

Further tactical adjustments from Ambani paid off in the second period as Kinyanjui turned from provider to scorer. The lively winger found acres of space inside the penalty area before executing a calm, composed finish that effectively put the match out of reach for the visitors.

Second victory

The victory marked Ingwe’s second league win of the season, having opened the 2026/27 campaign with one victory and three draws. Prior to their Week 5 clash at Wang’uru,

Leopards had played two home fixtures, both resulting in frustrating goalless stalemates against Bandari FC at the Police Sacco Stadium and Shabana FC at Nyayo National Stadium.

Their sole win prior to Sunday’s triumph had come via a hard-fought late victory over Kenya Police FC.
