KCB End Gor Mahia’s Winning Run With 2-1 Victory in Embu

KCB FC handed defending champions Gor Mahia their first defeat of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season after securing a 2-1 victory at Moi Stadium in Embu on Sunday, November 1.

The result ended Gor Mahia’s perfect start to the campaign, having won their opening four matches. KCB, coached by Robert Matano, produced an efficient attacking display before showing resilience to protect their advantage.

The Bankers took control in the 21st minute when former Shabana forward Assis Mambote found space behind Gor Mahia’s defence and finished to give the visitors the lead. Francis Omondi then doubled KCB’s advantage nine minutes later, leaving the champions with a difficult task before half-time.

Gor Mahia responded after the break and reduced the deficit through Alpha Onyango, who converted a penalty after KCB defender Joshua Onyango was penalised for a foul inside the box. The goal gave the visitors renewed pressure as the champions searched for an equaliser.

Head coach Charles Akonnor introduced several attacking players, including Jackson Dwang, Shariff Musa, Sylvester Owino and Ebenezer Assifuah, as Gor pushed forward. However, KCB remained organised at the back and survived sustained pressure, including during stoppage time, to claim all three points.

In another Matchday Five fixture, AFC Leopards defeated Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County. The victory gave Ingwe a positive result in the Ingo Derby after struggling to find goals earlier in the season.

Despite losing, Gor Mahia remain top of the league standings with 12 points from five matches. KCB have moved into second place with 10 points, making the victory an important statement in the early title race.
