Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sparked excitement among Kenyan football enthusiasts after hinting at plans to bring English Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal to the country for a high-profile friendly encounter.

The proposal could give thousands of local supporters an opportunity to watch the two celebrated clubs compete on Kenyan soil, with the Raila Odinga International Stadium expected to be considered as a possible venue.

Murkomen made the remarks on Sunday, November 8, 2026, while attending a thanksgiving service at Bushiangala Church of God in Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County.

During the gathering, the Interior CS also addressed matters of national security, warning that the government would take decisive action against religious extremism and radicalisation while protecting the constitutional freedom of worship.

He commended the multi-agency team led by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), alongside the Judiciary, for securing convictions against individuals responsible for the Shakahola massacre.

Murkomen further disclosed that the government was developing measures to regulate mining activities, resolve disputes surrounding mineral extraction and ensure communities living in resource-rich areas receive meaningful benefits.

The Sunday service brought together Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga, Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali, Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, Lurambi MP Titus Khamala and Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe.

Western Regional Commissioner Allan Machari, Members of County Assembly and other local leaders also attended the thanksgiving ceremony, which included contributions towards the development of church infrastructure.

The proposed football spectacle would add to Kenya's ambitions of attracting major international sporting events, although confirmation from the clubs and organisers would be necessary before the friendly can be considered officially scheduled.
