Substitute Noah Okafor scored the winner being assisted by fellow substitute Harry Wilson, whilst VAR intervened on a potential red card and a handball decision that set the tone for a feisty affair at Elland Road.

Leeds made two changes to the team that lost 2-0 away at Bournemouth with Wilson and Dan James losing their places in favour of Lukas Nmecha and Sean Longstaff

Spurs made one change from their win against Crystal Palace with Dominic Solanke dropping to the bench for Pedro Porro to return.

Five minutes in VAR was called to action after Gabriel Gudmundsson’s whipped cross was deflected off Mateus Fernandes’ upper arm with a check deeming no handball.

Micky Van De Ven picked up the game’s first booking after dragging down Jayden Bogle, followed by Longstaff who went in late on Fernandes.

The first chance on target went Spurs way after 25 minutes after Mathys Tel broke down the left wing, working the ball to Marmoush whose effort deflected through to James Trafford.

With ten minutes until the break Bogle committed a late foul on Tel, leading to an almost five-minute VAR review for serious foul play.

Bogle escaped any punishment which drew frustration from the Spurs bench only adding to the combative nature of the game so far.

Leeds’ best chance of the half came on the 40th minute after a whipped cross in from Bogle found Nmecha who was unable to make clean contact and sent his header into the arms of Antonin Kinsky.

Just before half-time, Tel was unable to continue due to the challenge and made way for Solanke.

After the restart, Gudmundsson made way for Melvin Bard in the only change for either side.

Bard didn’t have to wait long to create the opening opportunity of the half after Longstaff couldn’t get on the end of his deep cross with Ethan Ampadu’s follow up blocked.

With six minutes gone since the restart Sandro Tonali was booked for a challenge on Nmecha with Roberto De Zerbi also being booked for his reaction.

Spurs struggled to turn possession into meaningful opportunities throughout the second half, with Leeds increasingly winning the midfield battle throughout.

Ao Tanaka was on the end of the best chance of the half so far after Longstaff played through Dominic Calvert-Lewin who found the Japanese international on the penalty spot, but he sent his effort over.

Spurs got their first chance of the second half after substitute Conor Gallagher fizzed an effort from distance just wide of the post, close enough to make Trafford worried.

Bard became Leeds' primary attacking outlet after the interval, driving from deep and finding Bogle, with the ball wriggling through to Longstaff whose effort was met by a fantastic save from Kinsky.

With just over ten minutes to play, Bard’s throw-in on the left was played on by Calvert-Lewin finding Wilson whose clever flick released Okafor, who rifled a powerful strike beyond Kinsky to finally break the deadlock.

Spurs left it late for their clearest sight of goal with a deep free-kick from Andy Robertson finding its way through to Jan Paul van Hecke whose headed effort is well saved by Trafford to keep the lead alive.

The victory sees Leeds climb to eighth and end a five-match winless run, while Spurs' three-game winning streak comes to an end as they miss the chance to jump above the whites.
