Michael Carrick’s Full-time Reaction to Shea Lacey Highlights His Appreciation of Man Utd Youngster

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Manchester United youngster Shea Lacey played an important role in his side’s dramatic 3-2 Champions League victory over Roma, showing why supporters have been calling for him to receive more first-team opportunities.

United fans had repeatedly urged Michael Carrick to give the academy graduate meaningful playing time, and their wish was finally granted in the 75th minute when the teenager came on with his team trailing 2-1.

Lacey immediately tried to make an impact, winning a challenge inside the penalty area shortly after his introduction. However, despite appeals from Manchester United players for a penalty, the referee decided against awarding a spot-kick.

The youngster eventually delivered a decisive contribution when the score was level at 2-2, producing an excellent forward pass into the penalty area for Matheus Cunha, who finished brilliantly to complete United’s comeback.

The assist was Lacey’s first for Manchester United’s senior team, while Cunha’s goal secured a memorable 3-2 victory after the hosts had initially fallen two goals behind.

At the final whistle, Carrick was seen embracing the young winger on the pitch, smiling as he celebrated the teenager’s contribution to the important result.

The manager appeared pleased with Lacey’s impact, particularly as the victory marked his first win as Manchester United head coach in almost two months.

Lacey’s display has also raised questions about his limited playing opportunities in recent weeks, especially after he previously impressed against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, where he scored his first senior goal.

Despite that performance, the teenager was subsequently left out of the squad against Fulham, while Amad’s return further reduced his chances of featuring regularly.

The report also points to Amad’s difficulty in rediscovering his previous form, with the winger having failed to score since December and struggling to influence matches consistently.

Lacey showed what he could offer during his brief appearance against Roma, and Carrick could benefit from placing greater trust in the academy graduate by giving him more regular opportunities in the first team.
