According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Barcelona youngster Brian Farinas is beginning to reap the rewards of his patience after producing impressive performances in recent appearances under head coach Hansi Flick.
The 20 year old endured a frustrating start to the 2026/27 campaign despite being promoted to the first-team squad and receiving the No. 4 shirt previously worn by Ronald Araujo. However, regular opportunities proved difficult to secure, and he was often among the players left out when Flick trimmed his squad.
Farinas' future at Barcelona also appeared uncertain during the summer transfer window, when Girona reportedly submitted a €1.5 million offer for 50 per cent of his rights. Although the Catalan club were willing to consider the proposal, Flick reportedly intervened after being impressed by the youngster's versatility, intelligence and attitude during preseason.
The German manager eventually decided that Farinas should remain with the senior squad, although the midfielder had to wait several weeks for his opportunity.
His breakthrough came in an unfamiliar position, with Flick deploying him at right back against Deportivo Alaves. Despite developing as a midfielder at La Masia, Farinas adapted impressively and helped Barcelona secure a convincing 6-1 victory.
He completed 101 passes, recovered possession six times and established a promising understanding with Lamine Yamal on the right flank. His composure and ability to contribute defensively and offensively attracted attention.
Farinas subsequently delivered another encouraging performance against Aston Villa in the Champions League. Making his European debut against an opponent that had won its first three matches in the competition, he demonstrated confidence, defensive awareness and an ability to handle pressure.
He also completed 11 passes in the final third, matching Pedri's tally and underlining his contribution to Barcelona's attacking movements.
These performances have strengthened Flick's decision to retain him, particularly because his versatility offers the manager another option across midfield and defence.
Although competition for places could increase when injured defenders return, Farinas has shown that he can provide valuable cover in different positions.
His willingness to adapt has also impressed Flick. Following his debut, the youngster revealed that the manager had asked whether he could play at right-back. Farinas made his position clear, explaining that he was ready to play wherever the team needed him.
