According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday, October 23, 2026, Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has identified Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and forward Kylian Mbappe as two players his team must closely monitor ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico.

The 23-year-old believes Barcelona will need to produce a disciplined team performance to defeat their fierce rivals in one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures of the season.

Speaking to RTVE ahead of the match, Fermin explained that previous results and current form would not necessarily determine the outcome. He emphasised that Barcelona must remain focused, adhere to their tactical plans and avoid making expensive mistakes throughout the encounter.

The Spanish midfielder highlighted Courtois’ exceptional ability between the posts and Mbappe’s attacking quality as significant threats to Barcelona. He acknowledged that both players have the potential to influence the outcome of a match and stressed the importance of working collectively to limit their impact.

Fermin was also asked about recent comments made by Jose Mourinho concerning refereeing in Spanish football. However, he declined to get involved in the controversy surrounding Real Madrid’s complaints about officiating.

Instead, he insisted that Barcelona’s main objective was to concentrate on their performances, win matches and preserve the club’s identity rather than become distracted by public disputes. He maintained that the team must remain faithful to its playing philosophy and demonstrate its quality on the pitch.

Meanwhile, Fermin provided an encouraging update on his fitness after recovering from an injury that prevented him from participating in the World Cup. He expressed satisfaction with his progress and reaffirmed his determination to maintain a high standard of performance.

The midfielder also praised Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick for showing confidence in him and assigning him an important role in the squad this season. According to Fermin, the manager’s trust has motivated him to improve his game and contribute more significantly to the team's achievements.

Fermin also revealed his preferred candidate in the Ballon d’Or race, backing his Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal to win the prestigious individual award. When asked who deserved the honour, he identified the young winger as his choice.

Barcelona will now hope Fermin can turn his confidence and creativity into another influential display against Real Madrid on Sunday. The midfielder will be eager to help his teammates secure a crucial victory in the high-profile encounter.
