According to a report by Football London on Friday, October 23, 2026, Alex Iwobi has named former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla as the best footballer he has played alongside, placing the Spaniard ahead of several high-profile stars he encountered during his career.
Iwobi made close to 150 appearances for Arsenal before leaving the club and later represented Everton. The Nigerian international currently plays for Fulham, having shared the dressing room with several talented players throughout his professional career.
Despite playing alongside notable names such as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, Iwobi chose Cazorla when asked to identify the finest player he had played with.
The Fulham midfielder made his choice ahead of this weekend’s Baller League event, highlighting the lasting impression Cazorla made on him during their time together at Arsenal.
Cazorla joined the Gunners for approximately £15 million and quickly became an important figure in the team. His close control, technical ability, creativity and vision made him a favourite among Arsenal supporters.
However, persistent injuries affected parts of his career in north London and prevented him from consistently displaying his full potential. Despite those setbacks, the Spaniard left a lasting legacy at the club, with many supporters regarding his transfer fee as excellent value for money.
Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott recently praised Cazorla while discussing Manchester City midfielder Rayan Cherki, comparing their ability to use both feet with remarkable ease.
“I’m gonna completely separate all these charges that Man City have,” Walcott said. “Rayan Cherki, after Santi Cazorla, has the he’s two-footed, right? It’s amazing. I don’t even know which is his best foot.”
Walcott also highlighted Cherki’s composure and decision-making, pointing to his movement and finishing as evidence of his technical quality rather than an overreliance on powerful shots.
Another former Arsenal teammate, Jack Wilshere, has similarly praised Cazorla’s ability, particularly recalling his performances during training sessions under former manager Arsene Wenger.
“The best ever I think for training was Santi Cazorla,” Wilshere said, highlighting the Spaniard’s technique, intelligent combinations and comfort using either foot.
Wilshere also explained that Cazorla’s understanding of the game allowed him to operate effectively in tight spaces and execute complicated movements with remarkable ease during training.
Iwobi’s choice further underlines the respect Cazorla continues to command among his former teammates. Although injuries disrupted his time at Arsenal, his exceptional technique, creativity and ability with both feet have ensured that he remains one of the club’s most admired midfielders of recent years.
