According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday, October 30, 2026, several Barcelona players have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Hansi Flick's strict hotel arrangements, with some believing that spending extended periods away from their families is affecting their recovery.
According to ARA journalist Xavi Hernandez Navarro, some members of the dressing room would rather return home between matches instead of staying in hotels, despite the German manager's focus on maintaining strict recovery routines.
The issue has attracted attention following Barcelona's consecutive defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in the Champions League and La Liga. After the Clasico loss, Flick admitted that his players lacked the freshness needed to deliver their best performances.
The disagreement reportedly became noticeable after Barcelona's 5-2 victory over Real Betis at Estadio de La Cartuja. Severe weather conditions prevented the squad from flying back to Barcelona that evening.
The team captains reportedly preferred to remain at the airport and wait for the weather to improve. However, Flick eventually instructed the entire squad to spend the night at a hotel in Seville.
The players returned to Barcelona the following day before travelling to Paris just two days later. Flick believes the disrupted schedule affected the team's preparations for their subsequent matches.
The manager has also brought in sleep consultant Anna West to oversee several aspects of the players' recovery. Her responsibilities include monitoring bedroom temperatures, bedding arrangements, screen exposure and individual sleeping habits.
However, some players reportedly feel that having dinner with their families and sleeping in their own beds would help them maintain better mental freshness.
This is not the first time Barcelona have experienced disagreements over hotel arrangements. Former captains Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez previously questioned unnecessary hotel stays, while Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique eventually made adjustments to accommodate some of their requests.
Flick has continued to maintain his stricter approach, but he now faces the challenge of balancing his recovery standards with the preferences of his players.
With Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid among Barcelona's upcoming opponents, the manager's recovery arrangements could remain an important talking point.
