Barcelona Trio Dropped as Spain Hand Jacobo Ramon Maiden Senior Call-Up

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has named a 27-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against the Czech Republic and England, with Como centre-back Jacobo Ramón earning his first senior international selection. GOAL reported on Friday, November 6, 2026, that the 21-year-old is the standout surprise in the latest squad ahead of the final group matches.

Ramón’s inclusion gives the defender an opportunity to make his senior debut. He joins Pau Cubarsí, Dean Huijsen and Aymeric Laporte among the centre-back options available to De la Fuente.

The selection also contains several notable absences. Barcelona players Eric García, Dani Olmo and Rodri have all been left out because of injury problems, depriving Spain of three established options. Their unavailability is a concern for De la Fuente ahead of the England match.

There is, however, more encouraging news on other players. Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro and Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García have returned to the squad after recovering from physical issues that prevented them from joining the previous international camp. Their returns provide additional choices.

Spain’s schedule begins with an away match against the Czech Republic in Prague on Thursday, November 12. De la Fuente’s side will then return home to face England at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, November 15.

The two fixtures remain important despite Spain having already secured a place in the Nations League quarter-finals. They won all four matches during the previous international window and secured their progress.

Their remaining priority is to finish top of the group. First place would bring an advantage in the quarter-finals, allowing Spain to play the second leg of their tie on home soil in March. Spain currently lead England by three points, meaning the meeting in Madrid could have a major influence on the final standings.

The clash with the Three Lions will also give Spain an opportunity to extend their unbeaten run. They will approach the contest with confidence after previously defeating England 3-2 at Wembley Stadium. De la Fuente will hope his players can produce another strong performance when the sides meet again.

The squad is due to gather at the Ciudad del Fútbol training complex in Las Rozas on Monday, November 9. The players will begin preparations there before travelling to the Czech capital for their opening fixture.

De la Fuente will need to manage the absences while integrating returning players and the new call-up into his plans. Ramón’s selection will attract particular attention, as the young defender now has a chance to demonstrate that he can compete internationally. The opportunity matters for Ramón, whose first selection places him alongside established internationals and gives him a chance to impress Spain’s coaching staff.

Spain’s broader objectives remain clear: secure maximum results from the final group matches, preserve their advantage over England and finish first in Group A3. A strong international window would also reinforce the confidence gained from their previous results and help maintain their standing among the world’s leading teams.
