Vinicius Jr's worrying slump continues as Real Madrid rivals express sympathy for struggling star

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Vinicius Junior is facing growing scrutiny at Real Madrid following another disappointing performance, while young winger Yan Diomande is making a strong case for a regular place in Jose Mourinho's starting line up.

The Brazilian forward has struggled to reproduce the impressive form that previously established him as one of Europe's most dangerous attacking players. He has now gone six consecutive appearances without scoring or providing an assist, raising concerns about his recent contribution to the team.

His difficulties were evident during Wednesday's Champions League encounter against AEK Athens. Starting on the left wing, Vinicius failed to complete a single dribble for the third consecutive match, managing just one attempt against the Greek side.

Diomande, meanwhile, produced a more encouraging display despite operating on his less-favoured flank. The Ivorian attempted seven dribbles and successfully completed four, highlighting his ability to beat defenders and create attacking opportunities.

The youngster has also established himself among La Liga's most effective dribblers, averaging 4.27 successful dribbles per 90 minutes. That statistic places him ahead of Barcelona's Lamine Yamal and Deportivo La Coruna's Yeremay.

Diomande has taken advantage of Vinicius' four match domestic suspension to impress in his preferred position on the left wing. His performances have strengthened calls for Mourinho to provide him with more opportunities in the starting team.

The contrasting situations of the two attackers are also reflected in their latest Estimated Transfer Values. FootballTransfers' November assessment places Vinicius at €99.7 million, down from €116.1 million, while Diomande's valuation has increased to €101.4 million, putting him ahead of the Brazilian.

Former Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti expressed sympathy for Vinicius, arguing that the winger has struggled with his finishing and final contribution for several months.

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Santi Canizares was also critical, questioning whether the Brazilian has justified his status through his performances on the pitch.

However, Mourinho offered a more measured assessment after the AEK encounter, describing Vinicius' performance as acceptable, although not extraordinary.

The manager's comments suggest that he remains supportive of the forward, but Diomande's impressive displays could make the competition for attacking positions increasingly difficult.
