Barcelona are reportedly keeping a close eye on promising Estoril Praia defender Jordan Arnolin after sending a scout to monitor his performance against FC Porto in the Portuguese league.
According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday, November 2, 2026, a representative of the Catalan club attended the match at the Estadio do Dragao to assess the 18 year old, who was making his first start for Estoril's senior team.
Although Estoril suffered a disappointing 4-0 defeat against Porto, Arnolin attracted attention because of his versatility and ability to operate in several defensive positions.
The young Portuguese defender is naturally a centre back but can also feature as a full back or defensive midfielder. His adaptability has reportedly reminded Barcelona's recruitment team of academy graduate Xavi Espart, who is also capable of playing in different defensive roles.
Arnolin started the encounter against Porto in central defence before being substituted after 62 minutes. Despite his team's heavy defeat, the teenager produced some encouraging individual statistics.
He reportedly recorded 26 interventions, seven defensive contributions, six clearances and three interceptions during his time on the pitch.
The youngster also completed 13 of his 15 attempted passes, although he managed to win only one of his three individual duels against Porto's players.
While his performance was not particularly outstanding, Barcelona's interest is understandable given that the match represented his first senior team start. The club is believed to be more interested in assessing his long-term potential than judging him solely on one difficult outing.
Barcelona are not the only European side monitoring the defender. Reports indicate that Brighton and Lille also sent scouts to watch him against Porto, suggesting that his development is attracting attention beyond Spain.
Nevertheless, none of the three clubs has reportedly made a formal approach to secure his services.
For Barcelona, Arnolin is viewed as a possible long-term defensive investment rather than an immediate addition to Hansi Flick's first-team squad.
His ability to cover multiple positions could make him a valuable option for the club's defensive department, particularly as Barcelona continue looking for young players with the potential to develop into important first-team members.
However, sporting director Deco will ultimately have to determine whether the teenager's qualities justify pursuing a transfer.
For now, Barcelona appear to remain in the scouting stage, with further assessments expected before the club decides whether to make a formal move for the promising Portuguese defender.
