Chelsea forward Morgan Rogers has disclosed how advice from his Brazilian team-mate Joao Pedro inspired him to score during the Blues' 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
According to a report by Football London on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the England international revealed that Pedro had repeatedly encouraged him to attempt chipped finishes over goalkeepers during training sessions.
Rogers opened the scoring shortly after the half-time break with an impressive individual effort. The £117 million summer signing dribbled past Manchester United's defenders before calmly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Cole Palmer later secured Chelsea's victory by converting a penalty after Lisandro Martinez was sent off for receiving a second yellow card following a foul.
Speaking after the encounter, Rogers discussed his goal with former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo, who complimented his composure and decision to chip the goalkeeper.
The 24-year-old explained that Pedro had consistently advised him to practise similar finishes during training, encouraging him to use the technique more often in matches.
The Brazilian forward is well known for his ability to score by delicately lifting the ball over goalkeepers, and his guidance appears to have influenced Rogers' decision against United.
Although Pedro missed Saturday's match because of a thigh injury, he has remained an important attacking figure for Chelsea this season, recording five goals and three assists in six Premier League appearances.
His absence forced manager Xabi Alonso to consider alternative attacking options, with Pedro Neto taking on a different role alongside Rogers, Palmer and Estevao Willian.
Alonso was satisfied with how his players handled the situation, particularly in the second half, when Chelsea increased their attacking pressure and gradually took control of the match.
The victory was an important response from the Blues following consecutive defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
Rogers also strengthened his growing reputation within Alonso's squad, taking his goal tally to six in 12 appearances since joining Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Pedro's influence demonstrates the growing understanding among Chelsea's attacking players and the importance of teamwork, even when certain key members of the squad are unavailable.
