Real Madrid winger Yan Diomande had an excellent game against Barcelona in the 2-1 win at Camp Nou on Sunday night. It was a mesmerising performance from the Ivory Coast international, as he was able to completely torment Barcelona's defense all night, while also being involved in one of the goals.

His defensive effort did not go unnoticed either, as he was able to support Marc Cucurella in defending Barcelona star Lamine Yamal on his flank. It was a great performance, and not enough people are giving him enough credit for what he achieved.

Diomande completed a fair amount of dribbles, and his cross was the one that led to Kylian Mbappe's first goal on the night.

There were so many instances where it felt like he would lose the ball, but he was able to get past multiple Barcelona bodies, while also playing some exquisite passes to his teammates in the process.

Real Madrid need Yan Diomande more than Vinicius Junior right now

This entire game, and the ones that it followed, showed that at this point in time, Diomande is a much better fit for Real Madrid than Vinicius Junior, and Jose Mourinho needs to understand this as soon as possible.

Real Madrid need a winger who is not afraid to do the dirty work in defense. They need a player who would not overcomplicate things by going towards the touchline in the hopes of getting past multiple defenders. They want someone who knows when the task at hand is too much for him to take on all alone, when to pass the ball, when to dribble past players, and most importantly - they want their winger to be decisive.

Right now, Vinicius Junior is none of those things, and Diomande is every single one of them. He makes mistakes, yes, but he is able to get past them so easily, and is consistently doing incredibly well on the wing. Vinicius Junior, on the other hand, has lost all his confidence, and is no longer showing the obvious talent he used to.

Real Madrid cannot keep playing Vinicius Junior in the hopes that one day, his spark will return. At the moment, Diomande is very clearly the better player, and he should start over the Brazilian in most games.

Vinicius Junior should get some chances here and there to recover his form. He should come off the bench in the hopes that things will change, but it would be foolish to bench Diomande right now, considering the way he is playing lately.
