Debibi United pulled off a stunning 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 9 encounter at the Debibi Presby Park on Sunday afternoon.

Demetrous Sarkodie proved to be the difference-maker, scoring the decisive goal in the 51st minute to hand the Victory Boys a memorable victory over one of the league's title contenders.

Hearts of Oak arrived in Techiman hoping to extend their winning run and protect their position at the top of the league standings.

However, the Phobians struggled to play their usual game against a determined Debibi United side that showed more energy and discipline throughout the match.

Although Hearts had some good moments in the game, they failed to play at their usual level, especially in midfield, where Debibi United took control and made it difficult for them to create attacking chances.

The breakthrough finally arrived six minutes into the second half when Sarkodie found the back of the net in the 51st minute to send the home fans into loud celebration.

The Phobians pushed for an equaliser as the game progressed but struggled to break down Debibi's defence, with the Victory Boys holding firm to protect their slender advantage until the final whistle.

The result represents a major boost for Debibi United, who move out of the relegation zone and climb from 16th to 15th place with 10 points after nine matches.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak have suffered a setback in their title challenge, dropping to third place with 17 points following their defeat in Techiman.

The Phobians will now be eager to respond in their next league fixture against Heart of Lions as they look to get their campaign back on track, while Debibi United will take plenty of confidence from their impressive victory.
