National Paralympic Committee (NPC) President Samson Deen says $250,000 of the $500,000 sponsorship commitment from Gold Fields Limited to the Black Challenge will be invested in the development of amputee football in Ghana.
Gold Fields has committed $500,000 to support Ghana’s national amputee football team as part of a broader $5 million, two-year sponsorship agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) covering multiple national teams.
The funding has been activated to boost the team’s preparations and motivate the players ahead of the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
Addressing the Black Challenge, Deen disclosed that half of the sponsorship package would be channelled into developing the sport beyond the upcoming tournament.
“$250,000 out of the $500,000 from Gold Fields is for the development of amputee football,” he said.
Deen also stressed the importance of winning the World Cup, describing the achievement as a significant milestone for Ghana and a major boost for amputee football.
“The best we can do is to win the Amputee World Cup. Winning the cup will mean a lot to us,” he added.
The 2026 Amputee Football World Cup is scheduled to kick off on November 13, with Ghana making their return to the global competition after an eight-year absence.
The Black Challenge have been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq.
Ghana head into the tournament as back-to-back African Amputee Cup of Nations champions, having won the continental title in 2021 and 2024.
They will be hoping to build on their previous best performance of sixth place at the global competition in Argentina as they target a historic World Cup triumph in Mexico.
