Ipswich Town 1-1 Nottingham Forest - Julio Enciso's reaction

The Blues fell behind to a well-taken goal from Neco Williams, and found it tough to create chances as the visitors looked to take control.

But Enciso capitalised on a mistake at the back to equalise, scoring his first goal since returning to Portman Road permanently.

Forest had better opportunities to win the match, but neither side could find a second goal to do so.

“To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed,” Enciso said after the match. “I think we’re so ambitious, and we want to win. We want to win for the fans.

“In the end, we couldn’t win. We have to keep working and keep learning – maybe next week we can win.

“I’m happy to help the team by scoring at Portman Road. That makes me proud, because I’m working hard for the team.

“I’m really happy to score.”

For Enciso, this a particularly notable goal – his first on Suffolk soil.

“I think it’s my first goal at Portman Road as well!” he chuckled. “That’s why I want to say thanks to my team-mates, to my coach, Gary, because he trusts me.

“I took the ball and saw the keeper – he didn’t come, so I scored.”

Asked about his return to Ipswich, Enciso’s face lit up with a beaming smile.

“I’m really happy,” he enthused. “When I’ve been here, I’ve had so much love. That’s why I decided to come again, to this incredible club.”

Unsurprisingly, manager Gary O’Neil played a big part in the summer move, having managed the Paraguayan at Strasbourg last season.

“He sent me a message,” Enciso revealed. “He told me about the challenge, and when I heard Ipswich, I couldn’t say no.

“He’s top. We worked together before and that helped as well. I’ll try and give my best for him and for the team.

I was waiting for his messages! I’m really grateful for him. It’s difficult to earn a manager’s trust as a player, like I have from him, so I want to say thanks to him.

“I think he knows I’ll give everything for him and for his team. I want to say thanks to my team-mates, because every day in training they give me support, and that’s important for me.”

Enciso looks like a different player to the one that joined Town on loan in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. He feels the same way, reflecting on that spell compared to this one.

“I tried to learn from everyone, from Gary as well,” he explained. “He helped me a lot. I try to do my best in every game, and I think I’m a better player now.

“I want to say thank you to my wife, because I have stability thanks to her. We talk a lot.

“I’ve changed everything in my life. That’s helped me to be calm and focus on playing games.”

So, what’s the big difference this time?

“I started the season, which is really important,” Enciso argued. “Last time, I was here at the middle and the end. It was harder.

“This is different. We’ve signed great players and that helps everyone. We can do our job properly.”

Of course, this time he’s back on a permanent basis. There are no question marks over his future, and the full focus is on keeping Ipswich in the Premier League.

“That’s different, because I know I’m staying here,” he admitted. “I’ll try to do my best in every training session and every game.

“I want our fans to know that I’ll give everything for them.

“They sent me messages before I signed. My wife and my family were really happy, because we receive love from them, and I want to say thank you to them as well.”

It helps that, unlike his last stint at the club, he’s surrounded by Spanish-speaking players – Emersonn, Exequiel Palacios and Marcelino Nunez among them.

That helps Enciso feel right at home when living and working in Suffolk.

“Of course – it’s really important,” he stressed. Sasa [Lukic] speaks a little bit as well.

“We have a good relationship. That’s so important in a team.

“Before, I was really shy. I didn’t speak English because there were so many Spanish players at Brighton.

“It was really hard for me before [at Ipswich] because nobody else spoke Spanish.

“This time, I had to learn [English]. I make mistakes, but that’s why I try to speak it.”
