NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees was handed over a minute straight of FOX NFL Sunday pregame airtime to discuss the strengths of coordinator Brian Flores's Minnesota Vikings defense.
After Brees, a FOX color commentator, praised Flores's blitz-heavy approach and the use of linebackers Blake Cashman, Erick Wilson, and Andrew Van Ginkle, Terry Bradshaw decided he'd had enough.
The 78-year-old, who earlier laughed at a Tom Brady on-air expletive, clapped his hands together as Brees was wrapping up his segment and then proceeded to walk across the panel — a group that included Howie Long and Michael Strahan — and into another corner of the FOX Los Angeles studio.
Bradshaw may have been getting a head start for positioning during the next FOX NFL Sunday segment, but he still walked in front of Brees while he was still speaking.
Brees's appearance in the studio is a first of the year. He's on the 4:05 pm ET Los Angeles Chargers-Los Angeles Rams assignment for FOX on Sunday at SoFi Stadium just down the road, allowing him to also contribute to the FOX NFL Sunday pregame.
Tom Brady, his coworker, makes similar appearances alongside Bradshaw, Long, Strahan, and host Curt Menefee when he was late to games in Los Angeles.
The Vikings enter Week 8 of the NFL season at 6-0 and are ranked first in every meaningful defensive metric. Flores is employing a unique style where he rushes five defenders more than 60% of the time, a first in NFL history.
Brees broke down virtual footage of the Minnesota defense from the team's gritty 16-10 Week 7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
"[Flores's blitzes] present so many different challenges, and it starts with all the guys that they bring to the line of scrimmage," Brees said. "In most cases, you're going to have seven or eight guys at the line of scrimmage at all times, and you have no idea who's coming, no idea who's dropping out.
"And sometimes they'll bring them all. At times they'll just bring maybe five or six, and then at times they're going to drop them all and just bring their normal four."
Minnesota travels to Michigan on Sunday to face its NFC North rival, the Detroit Lions (4-2), in a game with major NFC playoff implications. The Vikings, coming off a 9-8 season, have won the division just once in the last seven seasons.
